Emerging artist support

Location

Madrid, Spain

Year

2021

The IAM WITH YOU grant for emerging artists highlights the need to support contemporary artistic output and helps artists to help each other find the best way to manage their careers.

Through the initiative, the Spanish artist Ana Barriga and the Coloring the World Foundation aim to establish a chain of mutual support among artists. Ana Barriga donated one of her works and the proceeds of the sale were used to finance a residency to give an emerging artist the chance to undertake an arts project and benefit from practical and theoretical training. The program is cyclical, with plans to add new artists in subsequent iterations.

About the project

The Coloring the World Foundation announced the decision of the selection panel on January 6, 2021, via the websites www.ctw-foundation.org and www.inkandmovement.com, as well as sharing details via the social media profiles of the Coloring the World Foundation, Ink and Movement and Ana Barriga.

The panel comprised the artist Ana Barriga, Coloring the World Foundation members Óscar Sanz and Alejandra Kreisler, the critic and independent curator Regina Pérez, and the critic and curator Joaquín Jesús Sánchez.

The grant was awarded to the artist Laura Vinós, who completed her project and received training from Ink and Movement (partners on the project) during her time sharing studio space with Ana Barriga.

The training provided by Ink and Movement has given Vinós tools needed to take a professional view of her career from a business perspective. It included information sessions on her communication and social media strategy, contracts with galleries and for projects, image rights, the sale of her work, stock, certification and a range of other aspects that will give her a solid foundation for developing her career.

Collaborating Artist

Ana Barriga’s involvement in the project reflects her desire to support the professional development of artists who need a space to work, alongside technical support and training.
